Three persons accused of theft escaped while being produced before a magistrate Thursday afternoon in Gujarat's Valsad district, police said.

Two of them, however, were nabbed by police a short while later, said Sub Inspector V G Bharwad of Dungra police station.

The incident happened in Vapi town, about 360 kilometres from here.

Kailash Nigwas, Prakash Nigwas and Rajveer Nigwas were being taken to the residence of the magistrate for remand since it was a public holiday Thursday and the court was closed, he said.

The three had been nabbed for alleged involvement in a house-breaking theft Wednesday night, he said.

"The three accused managed to escape after pushing a policeman outside the residence of a magistrate in Vapi this afternoon. While Prakash and Rajveer were nabbed shortly after, Kailash is still at large," Bharwad informed.

"As soon as our vehicle stopped inside the court compound, which is near the residence of the magistrate, the trio jumped out of the vehicle and ran into the bushes after pushing a policemen" said Bharwad.
