ASHAs would be given incentives for counselling newly married couple to delay child birth for two years after marriage and couples with one child to have spacing of three years after the birth of first child, an official release said here today quoting Health Minister Rao Narender Singh.
Under this scheme, ASHA would be paid Rs 500 for ensuring spacing of two years after marriage, Rs 500 for ensuring spacing of three years after the birth of first child and Rs 1,000 in case the couple opts for a permanent birth control method after having two children.
He said ASHAs would also counsel eligible couples, who have up to two children, to opt for permanent limiting methods. It would reduce conception rate and lower the risk of infant and maternal deaths, he added.
