Kerala High Court today ordered a comprehensive probe by Revenue Principal Secretary into the land grabbing cases against Salim Raj, former gunman of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, who was suspended from service after his name figured in the Solar panel scam.

The probe was also against some revenue officials of Ernakulam. The court ordered that the Revenue Principal Secretary to submit the report within 15 days.

Justice Harun-Al Rashid said an inquiry has to be conducted regarding the role played by revenue officials, Salim Raj and his wife Shamshad, who is also an employee in the office of Land Revenue Commissioner.

The order was issued on petitions filed by Areefa and Premchandran Nair seeking CBI or special team probe against Salim Raj in the land grabbing cases against him.

The court said 'The enquiry shall be independent. Interference from any side, including ministers and superior revenue officials shall be viewed seriously'.

In a somersault, Advocate General K P Dandapani said the government had no objection in CBI taking over the investigation of the case.

Government had earlier resisted CBI probe in the case.

Director General of Police (DGP) K S Balasubramanian, earlier informed the court that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the complaints of land grabbing cases against Salim Raj.
