Heat wave returns to Odisha, Talcher sizzles at 44.2

Heat wave condition returned to Odisha especially both coastal and interior western part and sunstroke deaths mounted to 18.

At least 15 places of the state recorded temperature above 40 degree C and the coal town of Talcher was the hottest place with maximum temperature of 44.2 degree C.

Bolangir was at 43.5 degree C and Titlagarh at 43 degree, MeT office sources said.

The other places which sizzled were Angul and Bhawanipatna (42.7 degree C), Jhatrsuguda (42.6), Hirakud (42.4), Sambalpur (42.3), Sonepur (41.3), Chandbali and Sundergarh (41 each).

Bhubaneswar, which recorded a maximum temperature of 41.2 degrees C yesterday, today touched 42.2 degrees and had a relative humidity of 88 per cent. Cuttack recorded 39.6 degree C.
 

Meanwhile, a report from the Special Relief Commissioner's office said that sunstroke death toll mounted to 18 with a fresh case being confirmed in Bolangir district today.

The number of suspected heat-related deaths also increased to 181 from yesterday's 179, it added.
