The Himachal Pradesh State Election Commissioner was allegedly duped of around Rs 30,000, after a man, posing as a bank official, obtained his account details for Aadhaar seeding, the police said.

According to a police complaint lodged by P Mitra, a few days back he received a call seeking his bank details for linking his Aadhaar number with the account.

Soon after giving the details, he got an alert on his mobile phone that Rs 19,999 and Rs 9,999 had been deducted from bank account for some purchases, the police said.

Following this, he lodged a complaint at Chhota Shimla police station.

On the basis of his complaint, a case of cheating was registered and the number from which Mitra had received the call has been put under surveillance, the police said.

Mitra was the chief secretary of Himachal Pradesh from May 24, 2014 to May 31, 2016. He was appointed as state election commissioner on June 1, 2016.
