Walt Disney Animation Studios has rounded out the voice cast of its animated feature "Zootopia," with Idris Elba, JK Simmons, Octavia Spencer, Jenny Slate and Tommy Chong among the stars joining the film.

"Zootopia" is set in a civilization led by animals devoid of human interference, complete with habitat neighbourhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown. Disney opens the film on March 4, reported Variety.

Previously announced voice cast members include Ginnifer Goodwin as Officer Judy Hopps, who partners with scam-artist fox Nick Wilde (voiced by Jason Bateman) to crack a case. Shakira will voice superstar singer Gazelle.

The comedy-adventure is directed by Byron Howard ("Tangled," "Bolt") and Rich Moore ("Wreck-It Ralph," "The Simpsons").

Elba provides the voice of Chief Bogo, head of the Zootopia Police Department and tough cape buffalo with 2,000 lbs of attitude. He is also lending his pipes to Disney's upcoming live-action adaptation of "The Jungle Book", in which he will voice Shere Khan.

Simmons is voicing Mayor Leodore Lionheart while Slate is the assistant mayor.

Nate Torrence lends his voice to the Zootopia Police Department as a charming cheetah and Chong portrays the enlightened Yax the Yak. Octavia Spencer voices a desperate otter and Bonnie Hunt voices Bonnie Hopps, mother of Goowdin's Judy.

Tommy "Tiny" Lister is voicing a fox with a big chip on his shoulder and Raymond Persi is the voice of Flash, the fastest sloth working at the DMV-the Department of Mammal Vehicles.
