India, B'desh delegations visit disputed Muhurichar

India and Bangladesh delegations today jointly visited the disputed Muhurichar here, about 120 km from Agartala.

A three member delegation of India was led by Sreepriya Ranganathan, Joint Secretary of Ministry of External Affairs and a nine-member Bangladesh delegation was led by Abu Hena Muhammad Rahamatul Munim, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Bangladesh.

The Indian team entered Majumder Haat in the neighbouring Feni district of Bangladesh from where both delegations visited the Muhurichar area by two speed boats and later left for Dhaka where the issue of Muhurichar would be discussed tomorrow, District Magistrate of South Tripura, C K Jamatiya, who accompanied the Indian team, said.
 

The Indian delegation yesterday met Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and PWD minister Badal Chowdhury at the Civil Secretariat at Agartala.

Earlier, Chowdhury told reporters that during demarcation at the Muhurichar area, survey teams of both countries did not adhere to the Indira-Mujib pact.

Tripura Government took up the issue with the Government of India, which accordingly took up the issue with Bangladesh, he said.

Even as the land border agreement was implemented in May last, the Muhurichar area remained disputed.
