Punjab government today said an insurance cover of Rs 10 lakh will be provided to sewermen, safai karmacharis and fire staff in the state.
This scheme will be applicable on all categories of such employees/workers be it permanent, contractual or the out- sourced employees and the insurance premium will be paid by the concerned urban local body, Punjab local government minister Anil Joshi said.
"Directions have been issued to get an insurance of Rs 10 lakh done for each safai karamchari (scavengers), fireman and fire staff," Joshi said.
He said that directions have been issued to have the insurance done of all the workers before December 31 this year.
