IPS officer Rishikesh Meena, posted in the IB department, has been suspended by West Bengal government on a complaint by his wife, Archana, an IAS officer, that he allegedly tortured her.

"Yes, Rishikesh Meena has been suspended by the government," Home Secretary Basudeb Banerjee told PTI here.

Meena was yesterday accused by his wife who is posted in the Backward Classes Welfare department, of allegedly torturing her mentally and physically.

Archana had gone to Hare Street police station here on Thursday night and lodged a complaint stating that her husband and in-laws were torturing her for dowry.

Sensing the sensitivity of the case, the Hare Street police forwarded the complaint to the Home department which instructed the detective department to investigate.

This is not the first time that Meena has been accused of torturing his wife.

In 2006, Archana, who married in 2002, had filed a similar complaint against her husband and in-laws but it was withdrawn after an amicable settlement.
