Jaya's vision of slum-free TN to be accomplished'

Tamil Nadu government is continuing the housing scheme started by former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa as part of her '2023 vision' to make the state slum-free, municipal administration Minister S P Velumani said today.
Speaking to reporters after reviewing the progress of Housing for All scheme, along with Urban Development minister, Udumalai Radhakrishnan, he said that of the 2.6 lakh housing units planned in the first phase, construction of one lakh had been completed and handed over to the beneficiaries.
In Coimbatore 10,000 housing units had been completed under the schemes, including Prime Minister's Awaz Yojana and handed over to the beneficiaries.

Under the vision 2023 scheme, the target was to construct 10 lakh houses with a subsidy of Rs 2.1 lakh by that year he said.
According to a government survey, about 9.73 lakh persons required housing units in Tamil Nadu, Radhajkrishnan said.
