Jordanian national held for trying to smuggle gold

A Jordanian national was today arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle 3.6 kg gold worth over Rs 1 crore from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) at Shamshabad here.

The accused, Tarik Jaid, was intercepted by the Customs officials when he arrived this afternoon at the airport by a Oman Airways flight from Muscat, Customs Assistant Commissioner R Kalyan told PTI.

Four gold biscuits weighing 3.6 kg were seized from him, he said.

The Jordanian national, in an attempt to smuggle the precious metal, had concealed the gold bars in pockets of his trousers, he said.
