Kanpur hooch tragedy: PPS officer suspended for laxity

The Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police today suspended a Provincial Police Service officer posted in Kanpur Dehat, where nine persons had died in a hooch tragedy in May.
Nine persons had died in Rura area of Kanpur Dehat on May 20 after consuming spurious liquor.
Taking note of the incident, the DGP had ordered a probe into the matter, an official spokesperson said here.
In the probe, the then Circle officer, Akbarpur, Ajay Prakash Srivastava was found lax in performing his duties and has been suspended today by the DGP OP Singh, he said.
