Prices of lobia and peas rose by up to Rs 100 per quintal at the wholesale pulses market today following upsurge in demand coupled with restricted supplies from producing regions.
Marketmen said besides pick up in demand from retailers, restricted supplies from producing belts mainly led to the rise in lobia and peas prices.
Meanwhile, in order to maintain sufficient stocks of lentils, state-run FCI will this week start the procurement operation to buy a total of 50,000 tonnes of pulses, including masoor and gram.

Besides, to ensure adequate supply in the domestic market and keep a check on prices, the government is also importing pulses and creating the buffer stock.
Lobia rose by Rs 100 to Rs 5,100-5,300 per quintal.
Peas white and green also edged up by Rs 25 each to Rs 2,950-2,975 and Rs 3,250-3,350 per quintal respectively.
