A local outfit here today demanded clarification from the Centre for conferring Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award in the country, on Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
"In his regime , the drug mafia in the state is flourishing. His relatives and many leaders of SAD are allegedly involved. Is he being given the award for this?" alleged Vinay Jalandhari, head of Shiv Sena Uttar Bharat.
Claiming that the entire country wants to know for what service is Badal being awarded the Padma Vibhushan, he said, "Around 35,000 Hindus and Sikhs were massacred by terrorists during militancy in the state. To commemorate those terrorists, a memorial was built in Golden Temple complex.
