The Madras High Court today issued a statutory notice to lyricist Vairamuthu Ramaswamy to appear in person on a contempt petition filed by a film financer.
A division bench, comprising Justice Satish K. Agnihotri and Justice K.K. Sasidharan, also issued a notice to the Office of the Advocate General on the petition.
The petitioner, Mukanchand Bothra, alleged that Vairamuthu in his speech at a function here last month, "raised doubts about the faith, integrity, purity of judges among the public, especially about judges who are on the verge of retirement."
The function was organised with regard to the release of commemorative stamps of late Justice P. S. Kailasam.
