Manipur Governor Najma Heptulla and Chief Minister N Biren Singh today paid their tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 148th birth anniversary.
Heptulla and Singh attended a programme where National Cleanliness Day was also observed.
The governor reminded people of Gandhi's use of "non-violence as the most powerful weapon" against the British.

Recalling that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on this day in 2014, she urged the people to devote at least two hours a week to keep their surroundings clean.
The governor later took part in a tree plantation drive at the Raj Bhawan.
Chief Minister CM Biren Singh paid floral tributes to a bust of Gandhi and called for creating environmental cleanliness across the state.
He also highlighted the importance of sanitation practices.
State government employees, police personnel and local clubs carried out a cleanliness drive and planted trees on the occasion.
