Martyrdom anniv of Capt Rohit Kaushal commemorated

The martyrdom anniversary of Captain Rohit Kaushal, who was killed in an encounter with militants in J&K, was commemorated today at his native Jalauli village in Panchkula near here.

"Rohit had laid down his life while fighting insurgency in a midnight fierce encounter with the Afghan militants on November 11, 1995 in Doda district of J&K," a defence release said.

A memorial on Panchkula-Barwala road has been raised in his memory by the Haryana government.

Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar paid floral tributes to martyr of 18 Punjab batallion, who was then on deputation to 12 RR Battalion, in the presence of his parents -- S S Kaushal and Veena, besides others.
 

Lieutenant General K J Singh, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Command also paid homage to martyr Kaushal by laying wreaths at the memorial.

Besides, the officers and Jawans from 18 Punjab battalion, 12 RR Battalion and Chandimandir Military Station attended the solemn occasion, the release said.

A guard of honour was given by Jawans of 18 Punjab battalion.

On this occasion, S S Kaushal, Rohit's father said, "I am a proud father. My son gave his life for the nation."

His mother, Veena, said, "My son always wanted to be an Army officer and was very committed to serve the nation. Whenever we talked about his marriage, his answer was that he is already married to his unit.
