An Independent candidate from the Thane Lok Sabha constituency today alleged that sitting MP and NCP leader Sanjeev Naik made rampant use of money and muscle power to win elections.
Independent candidate Vinod Gangwal, who has filed more than two dozen complaints against Naik and his son, told reporters that unlike the past, the Election Commission is taking prompt action.
He challenged the use of several thousands of hoardings, especially in Mira Bhayander which costs several crores of rupees, though total expenses permitted is merely Rs 70 lakh per candidate.

Gangwal presented what he called "evidence" of "five to 25 per cent kickbacks for each contract awarded by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation".
He furnished blank cheques collected by Naiks from contractors before sanctioning the contract. "Cheques were drawn by Saideep Construction and all blank cheques were undated and amounted Rs 3,30,000 each," he said.
Gangwal said he had complained to the Election Commission, the CBI, the RBI and the ACB.
He urged a probe into the alleged use of such money in polls by Naik.
