With an aim to reduce pending cases in courts, the Madhya Pradesh government plans to take back 50,000 matters related to petty crimes.

"We are planning to take back nearly 50,000 cases registered under petty sections, with a provision of less than three years' sentence, pending in district courts since the last five years," Madhya Pradesh Home Minister, Babulal Gaur told reporters after a meeting with police officials.

"This will help courts concentrate more on cases registered under sections that deal with serious crimes," he said.

Gaur said that at present, nearly nine lakh cases are pending in courts and among them around 60 per cent are under petty sections.

For the proposed special committees comprising district and session judges, district collectors, superintendents of police and district prosecution officers will be constituted.

The minister also informed that the state government had also prepared a list of cases of a serious nature which have been pending since long, so that the government could ensure their fast disposal.

Gaur also rejected the demand for a CBI probe into the MP Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam, on the ground that the Special Task Force (STF) is doing its job satisfactorily.
