Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Council Dhananjay Munde today called on director general of police Satish Mathur and demanded immediate arrests in alleged crop loan scam in the sugar factory of Gangakhed in Parbhani district.

"Ratnakar Gutte and directors of his sugar factory in Gangakhed have duped thousands of farmers by preparing fake papers to obtain loans worth Rs 350 crore from banks in farmers' names.

"There has been an offence registered against the conspirators last week but no action has been taken," Munde said in a statement issued here.

"We met Satish Mathur today, presented all documents and have demanded immediate arrests of the accused," he added.

Later, speaking to reporters, Munde questioned if the government and the police department is backing the accused and thus no action is being taken against them.

Munde said that he reminded the DGP that the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court (HC) has asked him to look into its investigations by constituting a special cell.

Earlier this week, Munde had demanded an ED and a CBI probe into the alleged crop loan scam.
