NHAI officials named in an FIR in connection with the multi-crore NH-74 scam today approached the Uttarakhand High Court seeking a stay on their arrest.

Though putting no immediate stay on their arrest, Justice Lokpal Singh of the high court issued notice to ADM Udham Singh Nagar along with persons whose land was acquired for construction of the highway and fixed July 28 as the next date of hearing in the case.

Irregularities running into Rs 240 crore in the acquisition of land for national highway 74 located in Udham Singh Nagar district were detected in March with Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat recommending a CBI probe into the huge scam.

After the FIR was filed naming some NHAI officers in the scam, the officers approached the high court on Monday.

Though Attorney General Mukul Rahagi had appeared on behalf of the NHAI officials in the court on Monday, he could not appear today.

"As of now the single bench of Justice Lokpal Singh issued notices to the private parties. As Rohtagi could not make an appearance on Tuesday, the next day of hearing is fixed at July 28," said local counsel for the NHAI officers Prabha Naithani.
