Odisha targets skill training to 1.7 lakh youths in 2012-13

High Power Executive Body Committee under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik today resolved that 50,000 youths would be trained in construction sector, 30,000 young men and women in textiles and apparel, 15,000 in driving, 30,000 in manufacturing, 10,000 in paramedics, 10,000 in security guard service, 5,000 in hospitality, 10,000 in IT and ITES, 5,000 in mining and 10,000 in retail/ telecom/ banking.

Training targets were also set for departments like Directorate Technical Education and Training, Panchyati Raj, Commerce and Transport, Handloom and Textiles, Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Resource Development, Women and Child Development, ST and SC Development, Housing and Urban, Tourism.

 

So far 1,50,000 youths were trained in placement linked training programmes in various demand driven sectors, the sources said.

In addition to this, seven mega job fairs were organised.

Over 25,779 unemployed youths were offered jobs in these job fairs, the sources said.

The meeting also decided that weaving societies will be involved in skill training programmes in handloom and textiles.

The sources said there are 5,000 such societies now operating in the state.
