A Pakistani rights body today asked the government of Balochistan province to help trace several rights activists and others picked up allegedly by law enforcement agencies.

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) urged Chief Minister Abdul Malik to order a proper investigation into the killing of citizens in Balochistan.

"There has been a recent increase in cases of kidnap and killings in Balochistan," the HRCP said in a statement.

The rights body called for the recovery of lawyer Haider Ali, kidnapped in Turbat on November 27, and referred to Malik new cases of arrest and killing of six persons last week that were reported to HRCP.

Lawyer Nadir Nabi, a resident of Quetta, was allegedly arrested by Frontier Constabulary personnel along with plainclothesmen from his house in the presence of his wife and other family members on December 4.

He used to appear pro bono in courts on behalf of "missing persons" or those detained without charge by intelligence agencies.

The HRCP said it feared Nabi might have been physically harmed in custody.

Besides, Master Mehrab Baloch and Riazat Bugti, son of an activist of Baloch Republic Party, were picked up by security agencies recently, it said.

The HRCP also mentioned the cases of Kosagh Bugti and Masso Bugti Bakho Khan, who were reportedly killed in a military operation in Dera Bugti on December 5.

Another case the HRCP listed was of the killing of Ali Dost Baloch, his two sons and a grandson, reportedly in the same military operation.

The case of Rehmatullah and two others arrested from his house at Dinga village allegedly by paramilitary personnel on December 6 was also mentioned.

"CM Malik must make sure that the rights activists are not physically harmed in custody and to do his bit for getting the killings stopped," the HRCP demanded.
