Chairing a meeting to chalk out the integration plan, Chief Secretary, Sarvesh Kaushal directed the Transport and Police Departments to finalise it in the next seven days, an official release said.

CCTNS aims at creating a comprehensive and integrated system for enhancing efficiency and effectiveness of policing by adopting e-Governance and creation of a networking infrastructure for evolution of IT-enabled tracking system around 'Investigation of crime and detection of criminals', it said.

Vahan -- The Integrated Solution for Vehicle Registration -- is a highly flexible and comprehensive computerised system involving vehicle registration, fitness, taxes, permits and enforcement, the release said.

Sarathi project has automated the driving license process and an online database has been prepared, it said, adding e-Challan will involve electronic hand-held terminals to be connected to data centres providing officers accessibility to the database of vehicles, drivers and related other issues.

Additional Chief Secretary Home, DGP Punjab, Principal Secretary Transport, MD of Punjab Infrastructure Development Board (PIDB) and other officers attended the meeting.

Discussion on introduction of e-Challan system and access to vehicle registration data by the police department was also held, the release stated.

Divulging the details of the system, A Venuprasad, MD of PIDB, the implementing agency of the project, said e-Challan system is a non-contact enforcement system to curb violation and implement stricter traffic discipline.

Challan is issued to the violator using the hand-held device connected to either a central server or state-specific servers.

The Chief Secretary also directed the Transaction Advisor of the project to finalise specification of hand-held devices, E-payment gateway, printers and other equipment in next seven days.
