A suspended Additional SP, wanted in a corruption case, today surrendered in a special Anti-Corruption Bureau court where the magistrate handed him over to the ACB.

The ACB arrested Lokesh Sonwal and will produce him in the court to seek his police remand in connection with the case in which former Ajmer SP Rajesh Meena was arrested in January this year.

Sonwal was on the run after being named by ACB in a police corruption racket which was unearthed that month.

Meena, a promotee IPS officer, had allegedly been extorting money from SHOs of various police stations in the district on monthly basis through a private man Ramdev Singh. Sonwal allegedly used to coordinate the monthly collection from the SHOs in his office.

Besides, the SP had allegedly also been taking bribe for various works through Singh and Sonwal.

The court had issued arrest warrant against the suspended officer, but he was on the run.

A week ago, Sonwal approached the High Court seeking a ban on execution of the arrest warrant.

The court had directed him to surrender before the lower court in a week.
