He was later handed over to Income Tax authorities for further questioning, a senior police official said.

Superintendent of Police (Trans-Gomti) Durgesh Kumar said that during a routine checking drive at the Daliganj railway crossing, policemen stopped a vehicle and recovered currency notes, in Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 denominations, worth Rs 7.50 crore.

The person who was carrying the currency notes was identified as Shiv Shankar Tiwari.
