Expressing displeasure over the tendency of police to avoid filing FIRs, Rajasthan Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria today warned officials saying that efforts should not be to keep the number of FIRs low but their disposal high.

"No complaint in this regard should reach me," he said today while addressing police officials of Jodhpur division in a review meeting here.

He laid emphasis on officials holding public hearings daily from 12-1 PM daily. "This would act as a trust building between police and the common man and would also strengthen contacts of the police," Kataria said.

Referring to the Case Officer Scheme, he admitted that the scheme was not faring in the desired manner and said in order to meet its objectives, there was a need for improvement of efficiency.

He strongly advocated for devising an effective mechanism for control on crimes, especially smuggling of liquor, arms and mafia.

Terming night-patrolling as a trusted tool to keep watch on crime and catch hold of criminals, he stressed on the need for consistency and efficiency in patrolling.

He also called upon officials to promote a culture of team work, coordination and to create an atmosphere of motivation by recognising the efforts of subordinates.

"The tendency of working single-handedly is harmful and breeds the feeling of competition and superiority," he said.
