Priest Ram Das has succeeded Mahant Bhaskar Das, one of the chief litigants in the Ram Janambhoomi case, as the head of the Naka Hanumangarhi here.
Mahant Bhaskar Das had headed the religious chair till his death on September 16.
"Pujari Ram Daswas appointed as the Mahant of Naka Hanumangarhi by the mahants of Ayodhya," Ranjeet Lal Varma, the counsel for Nirmohi Akhara, said.
"I was nominated by my guru, Mahant Bhaskar Das, as his successor and now I will represent him in the Supreme Court in the case," priest Ram Das told PTI.
"However, efforts will continue for negotiations between parties concerned in the dispute," he added.
