The seven-day-long road blockade in Manipur imposed by an agitating Naga group was lifted today following intervention of the Union Home Ministry.
The decision to withdraw the blockade on road traffic on national and state highways in Naga-dominated areas of Manipur has been taken by the United Naga Council, the apex political organisation of Nagas, after prolong negotiation with Home Ministry's Special Secretary (Internal Security) Prakash Mishra and Joint Secretary Shambhu Singh.
The indefinite ban on vehicular traffic was started on September 4.

After the blockade was lifted, vehicles, including those carrying essential commodities, have started playing on the highways, official sources said.
UNC called for the blockade after two persons were killed in Ukhrul district, nearly 85 km from here, when police allegedly opened fire on protesters.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh was personally monitoring the situation in Manipur and had held talks with the Governor and the Chief Minister for early resolution of the crisis.
