RTI activist alleges hill-grabbing near Powai, Mumbai

Part of a hill near upmarket area of has been grabbed by a builder for a residential project, a Right to Information (RTI) activist claimed Thursday.

Police, however, said there seemed to be no substance in the complaint as the builder had necessary permissions.

"The hillock on Title Survey Number 101, survey no 38 (part) was found to be being demolished with earthmovers. So I have lodged a complaint with police station Wednesday," said activist

"I have grown up seeing these hillocks. But now it seems they are being erased to create more land for development," he said.

The activist also said that he had written to the to look into the matter and inquire about the permissions given to the builder to carry out construction work on these hillocks which had green cover.

When contacted, Anil Pophale, senior police inspector attached to police station, said, "Prima facie I do not find anything dubious as the builder has produced all the permissions. But still we will conduct further probe.
