Actress Sanaa Lathan is set to star in a racially-charged event series about the "dangerous aftermath" of a police shooting when an African-American cop kills a white teen in Tennessee.
The untitled event series is being written and executive produced by "Beyond the Lights" duo Gina Prince-Bythewood and Reggie Rock Bythewood, said The Hollywood Reporter.
Lathan, 44, will play an expert investigator who digs into the case, alongside a special prosecutor sent to the town by the Department of Justice.
The pair must navigate the media attention, public debate and the social unrest that comes with such a volatile case, as they seek justice before the divided town erupts in a race war.
Prince-Bythewood will direct the drama, which will be produced by Undisputed Cinema. It marks a reunion for Lathan with Prince-Bythewood, who teamed up for 2000 feature "Love & Basketball".
