A public sector bank today filed a complaint with the Delhi police claiming it received ten fake Indian currency notes (FICN) with face value of Rs 8,500 from an official of the Bangladesh High Commission who deposited around Rs 16 lakh with it, police said.
According to polic,e the incident was reported by the manager of State Bank of India, Chankayapuri branch .
"An employee from the Bangladesh High Commission identified as KS Islam today reached the branch to deposit Rs 15, 89,315 on behalf of the Commission. However, during scrutiny of the notes, seven currency notes of 1000 denomination and three currency notes of 500 were found to be counterfeit," said a police official.
The bank manager then filed a complaint with the Chankayapuri police station and also gave Xerox copies of the currency.
The complaint was forwarded to Parliament Street police station as it is the nodal police station to collect and register cases regarding counterfeit currency.
The Parliament Street police station has registered 36 cases related to FICN till September 30 but no arrests have been made till now. The fake currency is of face value Rs 1,00,774.
