Sniffer dog helps police track thief from own house

A sniffer dog in Odisha's Kandhamal district helped the police track a woman, accused in the theft of items valued at Rs 3 lakh, from her house in Phulbani district.

Police said Namita Sahu, a housewife of Kendupadar area in Phulbani town, was tailed by the sniffer dog which entered in her house and stolen items, estimated to be Rs 3 lakh, found in her possesion.

Once Sahu confessed her crime, the entire stolen property was recovered from her possession.

According to the prosecution, Sahu, who happens to be a good friend and immediate neighbour of Harapriya Sahu, had stolen the ornaments by breaking the asbestos roof of the house in her absence with the help of others while Namita went to her daughter's house at Koraput.
 

The accused along with her associates had allegedly stolen seven Mangalsutras, three pairs of gold bangles, three necklesses, three pairs of ear rings and a ring.
