Congress President Sonia Gandhi while condoling the demise of noted musician Kishori Amonkar described her as one who had "unparalleled calibre and genius".
In a letter to Amonkar's granddaughter Tejaandshree Amonkar, Gandhi said she has been privileged to have had a grandmother as her guru and hoped she will keep alive the unique musical tradition that she imparted in her.
"Kishori Amonkar was a musician of unparalleled calibre and genius. The incredible range of her voice, the depth of emotion with which she imbued her music, and the creative genius with which she extended and expanded the boundaries of Hindustani classical music, made listening to her a sublime experience always," she said.
"Our country was indeed blessed to have her in our midst, bringing us such joy, exhilaration and solace through her singing, for so many years," she also said in her letter.
