A special prayer was held at the holy cave shrine of Amarnath today on the occasion of Jyesht Purnima for smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage beginning June 28.
"The Shri Amarnath Shrine Board performed Pratham Pooja (first prayer) at the holy cave this morning amidst chanting of vedic mantras," an official spokesman said here.
The Shrine Board, since 2011, had been conducting Pratham Pooja on the auspicious occasion of Jyesht Purnima every year to invoke the blessings of Lord Shiva for peaceful and smooth conduct of the annual Amarnath yatra, the spokesman said.

Officials of the Shrine Board and personnel of the state police, Army and other security forces were present on the occasion of the Pooja.
The annual yatra will commence on June 28 and conclude on Raksha Bandhan which falls on August 21.
