Spiritual teacher Vitthalesh Ji Maharaj, said to be an authority on Vedas and Upanishads, died here at the age of 85.
Maharaj, ailing for sometime, breathed his last on Sunday night and his mortal remains were consigned to flames today.
Known for his simplicity and politeness, he was considered an authority on Vedas and Upanishads.
A spiritual teacher of Chaturved Samaj, Maharaj was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon and was discharged three days ago, said Rakesh Tewari, Mathur Chaturved Parishad General Secretary.
Shops were shut in Mathura as a mark of respect to the spiritual teacher.
