Turkey train station collapse injures five: media

Five people were injured today when a railway station under construction in northwestern Turkey partially collapsed, local media reported.

It was not clear why the upper parts of the two-storey building in Sakarya province near Istanbul collapsed, NTV television reported.

Of the five people taken to hospital, one is in a serious condition, it said.

The station was being built as part of the construction of a high-speed railway that will slash travel time between Istanbul and Ankara, with trains travelling at up to 250 kilometres an hour.

The accident came after transport minister Lutfi Elvan said on Monday that there have been more than 200 sabotage incidents on the line in the last few weeks.

The attacks, which have seen cables on the line cut, have delayed the official inauguration of the line from May to June.
