Hundreds of people from Pandre Pada and surrounding villages in Wada tehsil today blocked the road and held up the traffic on Wada-Bhiwandi road for hours following the death of two local men in a road accident this morning.

The Wada police station house officer said that Nilesh Sambre (23) and Amit Savra (26) were riding a two-wheeler which got stuck in a pothole. As they were trying to push it out, a dumper truck coming from behind crushed them to death.

As the news spread, angry villagers resorted to a rasta-roko, demanding action against the road contractor for the pothole-filled road.

Finally after a firm assurance by the police and the revenue authorities that they would take up the matter with the concerned contractor, the people dispersed.

Police have registered a case against the dumper driver. No arrest has been made yet.
