A local court has sentenced two Nepalese women members of a drug-peddling gang to ten years in prison for smuggling narcotic drugs across the Indo-Nepal border about three years ago.
A fine of Rs 1 lakh each was also slapped on them, and in case of default, another year of rigorous imprisonment, the prosecution said.
The women, Sitagati Magar and Samajhna Jaishi, hailing from Nepal were arrested about three years ago by SSB personnel at the Indo-Nepal border, at Sonauli here, and found possessing 10 kilogrammes of charas.
Hearing both the sides, Additional Sessions Judge Jitendra Kumar Singh, yesterday sentenced both of them to ten years in prison for violating various provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
