Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will attend the UN summit with 10 Southeast Asian nations in Myanmar next week and then travel to Australia to participate in the summit of the world's 20 largest economies.

UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said today the UN chief's first stop will be Myanmar's capital Naypyitaw to attend the November 12 summit with leaders from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

Ban will also hold separate talks with Myanmar's President Thein Sein and opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi that are certain to broach the opposition leader being banned from running for president in next year's elections and the plight of some 1.3 million Rohingya Muslims.

The secretary-general will then travel to Brisbane to attend sessions at the Group of 20 summit on Nov. 15-16, Dujarric said.
