To take stock of crop loss in Uttar Pradesh, a team of Cabinet Ministers led by Road Minister Nitin Gadkari, will visit the state tomorrow.
A central team will make a one-day visit on Tuesday to some areas in Uttar Pradesh to take stock of damage to crops due to recent rains, Road Ministry said in a statement today.
The team consists of Road Minister Nitin Gadkari, Fertiliser Minister Ananth Kumar, MoS for Drinking Water Ram Kripal Yadav and MoS for Home affairs Haribhai Parthibhai Chaudhary, the statement said.
"The districts to be visited include Agra, Meerut and Aligarh," it added.
Since February-end, unseasonal rains and hailstorms have been frequent, affecting rabi crops, including wheat and mustard.
Unseasonal rains and hailstorms have damaged rabi (winter-sown) crops in 106.73 lakh hectares of area across 14 states. Total cultivable area in rabi season stands at 600 lakh hectares.
Last week, finance Minister Arun Jaitley had said that the government is reviewing the norms to raise the compensation limit to farmers in case of drought or heavy rains damaging the crops.
The government had also set up an informal group of ministers, headed by Home Minister Rajnath Singh, to look into the issue of raising cap of financial assistance given to farmers whose crops have been affected due to unseasonal rains and other natural calamities.
