Vizag police seize 11000 kg ganja in 2013

Police has seized 11,051 kgs of ganja worth Rs 4.93 crore in the district during this year and has arrested as many as 300 people in connection with the illegal trade.

Last year, police had seized 13,100 kgs of ganja, valued at Rs 3.79 crore and booked 116 cases against 304 people.

"The contraband was seized from various parts of the district. We have booked 124 cases this year," SP (Rural) Vikramjeet Duggal told reporters at a press conference here today.

"In order to check cultivation and transportation of ganja, certain precautionary measures have been implemented. Police managed to identify smugglers and transporters and booked cases against them," he said.
 

This year the police arrested 300 people involved in ganja transportation with joint efforts by police, Forest and Excise officials.
