Observing that the Congress-led UDF is plunging into deep crisis in Kerala, CPI(M) today said it would take "appropriate decision" when a "situation evolves" in the wake of the solar panel scam.
CPI(M) Politburo member S Ramachandran Pillai said the party heading the Opposition LDF is closely observing the political situation in the state.
"Congress is in crisis. There are issues within the UDF. It is aggravating. LDF, as a responsible Opposition, would take appropriate decision and appropriate move based on how the situation is evolving," Pillai told reporters here.
His statement assumes significance in the wake of some allies, particularly a section in the UDF alliance partner Kerala Congress (M), is showing signs of unease over the party's continuance in the Oommen Chandy-led government.
Kerala Congress (M), headed by Finance Minister K M Mani, has nine MLAs in the UDF which enjoys a wafer thin majority in the 140-seat assembly.
The CPI (M) had so far been maintaining that it would not take measures to pull down the government.
The change in the CPI(M)'s stand came a day after senior Kerala Congress leader P C George mooting the idea of Mani as the chief minister of the state in the backdrop of the solar panel scandal that has shaken the Congress and the party-led government in the state.
Kerala Congress (M) has expressed unhappiness over not given a ministerial berth in the Manmohan Singh government. It has two MPs. Mani's son Jose K Mani represents Kottayam in Lok Sabha and senior party leader Joy Abraham is a Rajya Sabha member.
The party is also wary of not being invited for the meeting of the UPA Coordination Committee convened by the Prime Minister.
