Youth arrested for firing at police team

A 23-year-old youth who had allegedly opened fire on a police team and looted a car at gunpoint in Maurya Enclave area of Northwest Delhi has been arrested, police said today.

The accused, identified as Surender alias Banti, was nabbed from Shahid Bhagat Singh Road in Dallupura area yesterday and a pistol along with four live cartridges were recovered from him, police said.

On May 5, during police checking in Maurya Enclave in Northwest district, a police party tried to stop two youths riding on a bike. Suddenly the pillion rider, threatened the policemen by firing pistol. Police team followed them by motorcycle and after some distance they left the bike on road and ran away.
 

Police was continuously following them and caught one of the two who was later identified as Vinit.

"The another youth, identified as Surender, looted an SUV car at gunpoint in the same area. In the meantime as police reached the spot, Surender opened fire on policemen. The police party also returned fire but he managed to run away. He left the looted SUV car near Bhalasva area," said DCP (East) Ajay Kumar.

Surender is a notorious criminal having previous involvements and 12 criminal cases are registered against him, police said.
