India became the first team to seal a place in the Asia Cup 2025 final after a convincing 41-run win over Bangladesh in their Super Four clash at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The result also eliminated Sri Lanka from the tournament, setting up a virtual knockout between Pakistan and Bangladesh for the second spot in the final.
Batting first, India looked set for a massive total after their openers, Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad, powered their way to 72 runs in the powerplay. Abhishek Sharma once again played a breezy innings to give India the early momentum. However, the innings lost steam after his unfortunate run-out—brilliantly effected by Rishad Hossain at backward point—proved to be the turning point.
Shivam Dube, promoted up the order, failed to make an impact, and India's middle order crumbled under sustained pressure from the Bangladesh bowlers. From a position of strength, India were restricted to 168/6, falling short of a potential 200-plus total. Hardik Pandya’s late cameo was the only highlight in the latter half of the innings.
Rishad Hossain was the standout for Bangladesh, claiming two key wickets, engineering the crucial run-out, and maintaining pressure throughout his spell. The rest of the bowling attack also stepped up with disciplined performances in the middle overs.
In reply, Bangladesh never looked in full control despite a fighting knock from Saif Hassan. Dropped four times during his stay, Saif kept Bangladesh in the hunt, but lacked support from the other end. Once Jasprit Bumrah dismissed him, the chase quickly unraveled.
India’s wrist-spinners dominated the second half, sharing five wickets and choking the run flow, eventually bowling Bangladesh out and securing a spot in the final with one game to spare.
