South Africa made easy work of England in their final group game of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 at Karachi on Saturday, as they beat the English side by seven wickets to finish at the top of the Group B points table and enter the semifinals in style. They will now wait for the result of the India vs New Zealand match on Sunday to find out who their opponent in the next round will be.
Earlier, England won the toss and opted to bat first. However, they once again failed to get a good start as they lost Phil Salt (8) and Jamie Smith (0) inside the first three overs.
Ben Duckett (24) was also removed, caught and bowled by Jansen three overs later, as England lost their third wicket. Harry Brook (19) added 62 runs for the fourth wicket with Joe Root (37) before they were dismissed by Keshav Maharaj and Wiaan Mulder in back-to-back overs, reducing England to 103 for 5.
Maharaj then got Liam Livingstone (9) stumped, adding to England’s misery. Jamie Overton (11) became a victim of Ngidi’s brilliant catch off Rabada. Jofra Archer (25) played some good shots before losing his wicket to Wiaan Mulder, as Jansen took another stunner at mid-on.
Jos Buttler (21) handed his catch to Keshav Maharaj as Ngidi finally took his first wicket of the day. Mulder then dismissed Adil Rashid (2) to bundle out the English innings for just 179.
In reply, South Africa lost Tristan Stubbs (0) and Ryan Rickelton (27) early to Jofra Archer. However, Rassie van der Dussen (72 not out) and Heinrich Klaasen (64) added 127 runs for the third wicket to put the Proteas on the verge of victory before David Miller (7 not out) finished the chase with a six in the 30th over, handing his team a solid win with seven wickets and 125 balls to spare.
