Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), in a crucial Match 59 of IPL 2026 at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium, beat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 7 wickets to deny the latter their fourth straight win of the season.
LSG, with the win, have also kept their chances of avoiding a wooden spoon finish alive.
Meanwhile, CSK, with the loss, have dropped to the sixth spot on the points table.
Earlier, LSG won the toss and opted to field first. CSK got off to a steady start, adding 31 runs for the first wicket before Akash Singh dismissed Ruturaj Gaikwad (13 off 9 balls) on the fifth ball of the fourth over.
Akash then, in his next over, dismissed in-form Sanju Samson (20 off 20 balls) as CSK finished the Powerplay with the scoreboard reading 37 for 2. CSK’s hero from the last game, Urvil Patel (6 off 7 balls), failed to continue the momentum as he also lost his wicket to Akash Singh.
Kartik Sharma and Dewald Brevis then stitched together a brisk half-century stand for the fourth wicket to stabilise the CSK innings. Kartik Sharma took full advantage of his start and brought up his second IPL half-century in 35 balls.
Mohammed Shami then struck to remove Dewald Brevis (25 off 16 balls) and end the 70-run fourth-wicket stand. Kartik Sharma (71 off 42 balls) continued to hit the ball all around the park before finally losing his wicket to Shahbaz Ahmed.
In the end, Shivam Dube (32 not out off 16 balls) and Prashant Veer (13 not out off 10 balls) stitched together an unbeaten 45-run stand for the sixth wicket as CSK finished their innings at 187 for 5.
In reply, LSG got off to a fiery start thanks to Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis as they took the team’s total past the 50-run mark in just 4.2 overs. Marsh then brought up his half-century in 21 balls as LSG finished the Powerplay with the scoreboard reading 86 for 0.
The duo continued to attack and took the team’s total past the 100-run mark in just 7.2 overs without losing any wickets. Mukesh Choudhary finally got the first breakthrough for CSK as he dismissed Josh Inglis (36 off 32 balls) to end the 135-run opening stand for LSG.
Mukesh, on the very next ball, ran Mitchell Marsh (90 off 38 balls) out to give CSK some breathing space in the match. Spencer Johnson then dismissed Abdul Samad (7 off 3 balls) to keep the game alive for CSK.
However, in the end, Nicholas Pooran (32 not out off 17 balls) and Mukul Choudhary (12 not out off 10 balls) helped LSG get over the line with seven wickets and 20 balls to spare.
