Stock Market Closing Highlights: Equity markets staged a fag-end rebound
Sensex today | Stock Market Highlights today, Monday, February 2, 2026: Equity markets staged a sharp rebound in the last hour of trade on Monday, driven by a fag-end buying in Reliance Industries, Adani Ports, BEL, L&T, M&M, ICICI Bank, and HDFC Bank.
The markets, including mid, and smallcap stocks, ended higher a day after they logged their biggest Budget-day fall since February 2020. The rebound helped ease the markets' fear guage -- India VIX -- which slipped 8 per cent today.
The Sensex index jumped 1,345 points from its intraday low of 80,387.25, to hit a high of 81,732, before ending the day at 81,666, rising 944 points or 1.17 per cent.
Likewise, the Nifty50 swung between 24,679 and 25,108, before shutting the shop at 25,088, advancing 263 points or 1.06 per cent.
Power Grid was the top gainer on the Sensex index today, surging 7.6 per cent, as the company's management reiterated that its FY26 capex and capitalisation were on track, and that it is poised to exceed its annual guidance.
Besides, Adani Ports, Bharat Electronics, RIL, M&M, L&T, IndiGo, Ultratech Cement, Asian Paints, ITC, Bajaj Finserv, Tata Steel, ICICI Bank, NTPC, Maruti Suzuki, and SBI were the top gainers, adding up to 4.6 per cent.
On the downside, only six stocks were in the red, led by Axis Bank, Infosys, TCS, Trent, Titan, and Kotak Bank.
In the broader makets, meanwhile, the Nifty MidCap index gained 0.9 per cent, while the Nifty SmallCap index rose 0.6 per cent.
Sectorally, too, it was largely a sea of green with the Nifty Auto index climbing 2.14 per cent, the Nifty Metal 1.8 per cent, and the Nifty Realty 1.6 per cent. The Nifty IT index was the only loser, down half a per cent.
Gold, Silver prices extend decline
Commodity markets, meanwhile, extended the recent sell-off with MCX Silver futures ending 6.4 per cent lower at ₹2,48,600 per 1 kilogram. MCX Gold futures, however, recovered from intraday lows to settle nearly flat (down 0.1 per cent) at ₹1,47,600 per 10 grams.

Stock Market LIVE Updates: The recent rebound from the lower end of the channel near 24,679 highlights strong demand emerging at lower levels. Immediate resistance lies in the 25,150-25,200 zone, which coincides with the 200-day EMA, the upper boundary of the falling channel, and a previous support-turned-resistance area, making it a critical hurdle.
As long as Nifty sustains above 25,000, the near-term tone remains mildly constructive; however, failure to hold this level could lead to consolidation within the 24,800–25,100 range. Unless the index decisively breaks above 25,300 and exits the falling channel, the overall bias remains cautious to bearish, with rallies likely to attract supply at higher levels.
