Students take to streets to demand equal rights to Madhesis

Saptari, Jan 05 (ANI): Around 25,000 students from schools, colleges and vocational training institutes participated in a demonstration in Rajbiraj, the district headquarters of Saptari, accusing the government for not being serious about resolving the Terai unrest. Students chanted slogans against the government during the rally organised by the Madhesi Youth Forum. The rally started from a local stadium, and moved past various parts of the town before converting into a corner meeting at Gajendra Chok in Rajbiraj. For more than four months, the plains of the Nepal Terai have been simmering with protests against the country's new constitution that was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on September 20. Over 55 people, including agitators and police personnel, have been killed during the Madhesi agitation. On January 04, an injured protester, Sekh Mairuddin succumbed to his injuries.
