The Junior Hockey World Cup 2025 action continued on Saturday with hosts India maintaining their winning streak in the event after beating Oman 17-0 in their second game. India now, along with Switzerland, are two teams in contention for direct quarterfinal qualification from Pool B as both teams have six points in their account and will face each other in their final group-stage match on Monday.
India started the game in similar fashion to their last night’s performance as Arshdeep Singh, in the 3rd minute, scored the first goal of the day to put India 1-0 in the lead early. Three minutes later India won their first penalty corner of the day but failed to convert. They won another penalty corner in the 10th minute and failed to score again as the scoreline remained 1-0 till the end of the first quarter.
India won two quick penalty corners early in the second quarter but they failed to convert any as Oman’s defence stood tall. However, in the 17th minute Manmeet scored his first goal of the match to put India in a 2-0 lead. In the 26th minute Manmeet found the back of Oman’s goal for the second time to extend India’s lead to 3-0 before Anmol Ikka finally scored the first penalty corner goal of the night after nine failed attempts for India to take the scoreline to 4-0. In the 29th minute Dilraj scored his first goal of the night to finally end the first half of the match with a 5-0 lead.
The third quarter of the match started with Dilraj converting yet another penalty corner for India in the 31st minute before Arshdeep scored his second goal of the night minutes later to take India’s lead to 7-0. Ajeet then seconds later took advantage of Oman’s defensive blunder to score and take India’s lead to 8-0. In the 36th minute Manmeet scored his third goal of the match to complete the hat-trick and take India’s lead to 9-0. India scored four times in the next nine minutes to end the third quarter with a mammoth 13-0 lead.
In the fourth quarter India once again scored through a penalty corner conversion by Ajeet to take the lead to 14-0 in the 47th minute. Three minutes later India won another penalty corner and converted again to extend the lead to 15-0. Then in the 55th minute India scored through a penalty stroke to take the lead to 16-0. Dilraj then in the 57th minute scored his fourth goal of the match to end the match 17-0 in India’s favour.
